Why are so many Apple device-management vendors American?

On 14 April 2026, Apple Business launched in more than 200 countries, replacing Apple Business Manager, Apple Business Essentials and Apple Business Connect with one free platform: device enrolment, Managed Apple Accounts, app distribution, a built-in MDM layer, Blueprints for zero-touch setup, and an Admin API for programmatic access.

A platform reset like this is when categories get rebuilt. The question that interested us: who is building the software layer on top of Apple's new business APIs — and where are they?

Jamf is headquartered in Minneapolis. Kandji in San Francisco. Mosyle in Florida. SimpleMDM in Oregon. Addigy in Miami. Of the early SaaS products publicly building on the new Apple Business endpoints, the visible names are US-based too.

The closest thing to a European exception in app-distribution-first architecture is Appaloosa — which is French. Look for the United Kingdom on this map and you find something specific: service companies. UK firms in Apple device management overwhelmingly resell and configure the American platforms — implementation, support and consulting on Jamf, Intune or Mosyle — rather than building distribution software of their own.

Before saying anything in public, we searched for a UK-incorporated SaaS company building a standalone product for app distribution on Apple's business APIs. We then ran the same question through independent AI research tools across business registries, tech press and startup databases.

Neither pass found one. No UK startup with recent funding or coverage in this niche; no UK-registered software company with a public product, site or hiring in Apple Business API-based app distribution. As far as we and the tools can establish, AppDeploy is operating in a category of one within the UK.

We are saying that carefully, and we mean the narrow claim: a UK-built SaaS product whose core is app distribution on Apple's business APIs, where device management is optional rather than the entry fee. For most UK organisations this is not about flag-waving. It is about where the operational layer above their Apple estate lives, who operates it, and under which laws.

But if your actual problem is getting your own apps to your own people — employees, field teams, client organisations — with governance, audit and rollout control, you no longer have to buy a device-management programme to get it, and you no longer have to buy American to get it either.
